To name a few from purely performance perspective. Haven't see the last 2 new movies!
His performances hold up well during re-watching because the multi-faceted characters he built. For example, I did not like Perhaps, Love much at the beginning, because of the story and the musical genre that is not my taste preference. And how believable is someone to keep loving for such a long time? But since watching it 2 more times, I think I gained more insight and start to appreciate the entire movie.
My answer to Takeshi is (since I read he kept asking Director why), at least my take away is: Love and hate in equal measures. But revenge can sometimes have longer memories as in the case of Lin, who have been spurned 2 times. When he finally got his revenge, he realized more the love part, and can thus finally let go.
Frank Sinatra said the best revenge is massive success. I guess Lin believed otherwise.
